Barcelona

We returned to the St. Josep Le Boqueria Market for a late breakfast/early lunch. At one of the stalls in the back of the market, there was a bar where they were serving food. Quinn and I split the seafood platter and then followed that up with the meat platter. The seafood was cooked with just salt, pepper, oil, and parsley. It was so fresh and soooo good.

We had to go back to the same fruit stand where we had gotten smoothies the day before. Fresh fruit juice of pineapple and coconut - Yum!

We walked around the market to see some of the stands we missed the day before since they had been closed. The butchers were selling everything from sheep heads to brains to pig's feet and any other body part you could think of. The chickens, ducks, and quail were sold with their heads and feet still attached and some stands even displayed photos of the living conditions where the animals were raised. That's something you'd never see in the States! In the preview of Food Inc. that I watched a couple of weeks ago, I learned that lawmakers are trying to pass a law to make it illegal for people to take pictures of the living conditions and processing plants for food... hmmm... I wonder why...

A visit to Barcelona wouldn't be complete without a trip to the famed Sagrada Familia, the unfinished cathedral by Gaudi.

Next, we walked to La Pedrera, an apartment building architected by Gaudi.

Nearby, we stopped for an afternoon snack at Cerveceria Catalana for tapas (fried cuttlefish, calamari, and patatas bravas). Everything was made fresh to order (something expected in France but not common in Spain), which made the fresh seafood taste even that much better. The cuttlefish melted in your mouth and of course, I loved the potatoes!

Being a super hot day, we were on a mission to find some gelato. We walked around the city and settled on a Haagen Daz cafe. Quinn and I each had a sundae - chocolate for me, strawberry for Quinn.

Our last Gaudi stop of our Barcelona visit was to Casa Batllo, another impressive building with interesting architecture. My fav Gaudi site was Parc Guell followed by Casa Batllo.
Hungry Quinn... all we had was candy but luckily, the frankfurteria downstairs was still open at 2am.
