Le Marais, Le Dans Noir

More falafel!! Yum!! Being a hot, sunny day, there were long lines outside both Mi-Va-Mi and L'As du Falafel. To escape into some shade, we decided to pay the extra 2 euros to sit inside at Mi-Va-Mi instead of devouring our falafels by the road side. Eating inside had several benefits: a plethora of sauces/condiments, shade, free water, a bathroom, and seats!
After several attempts, we finally made it to Korcarz, the Jewish bakery on Rue des Rosiers. Unfortunately, their pastries look much better in the windowfront; I tossed my roule chocolat after only a couple bites... not worth the calories!
We took a nice lengthy walk through the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th arrondissements in search for the perfect cafe for a cup of coffee. Our goal was Gocce Cafe, but they were closed when we got there... boo! We did, however, get to stroll down Passages des Panoramas, a cute little indoor alley of shops, cafes, and hotels.

Dans le Noir is a "dark" restaurant where you eat in pitch black. I put my purse in a locker provided by the restaurant, and we "ordered" our dinner. Each course was a surprise so we really only chose how many courses to consume and what to drink. We were guided to our tables by our waiter and were seated with 4 other people. We were in complete darkness and had to rely on our other senses to guides us through our meal. It was definitely an experience: taking the time to "taste" the different flavors in our mouth and trying to decipher each bite, feeling the different textures in our mouth, and relying our stomachs to tell us when we were full instead of by the visual of an empty plate. The experience really makes you take a step back and realize how much we "eat with our eyes." It also makes for interesting conversation with the others at our table, especially when you can't see them. After our 3 course meal, we were taken into the receiving area to pay our bill. There, we were shown pictures of what our plates would have looked like in the light.
